Is the new Moto X an iPhone 6 killer?

New Moto X Android phone Apple is poised to announce the iPhone 6 next week and the media is waiting for the announcement with bated breath. But the new Moto X Android phone from Motorola might give the iPhone 6 a run for its money and then some. The Verge takes a look at the Moto X and says that it might be "the best Android phone ever made."

According to The Verge:
Today, Motorola announced its second-generation Moto X, the successor to the company’s rebooted flagship smartphone that was unveiled just over a year ago. Yes, the phone will simply be called Moto X again...and it’ll be available for the same $499 unlocked as the original when it launches later in September (that's for 16GB; the 32GB version runs at a $50 premium).
I’ve had a chance to spend some time with the new X this week, and something strange happened: I fell in love with it the moment I first held it.

The Verge isn't the only site that likes the Moto X, AnandTech also has a positive take on Motorola's new phone. Of course it's still early and these are not formal reviews of the Moto X, we'll have to wait a little while for those. But the initial reaction seems to be mostly positive, including on Reddit where folks have been sharing their thoughts about the new phone.
I'm not sure about the Moto X's jump from 4.7 inches to 5.2 though, that might be a bridge too far for some people. Oh sure, I understand that some folks love bigger and bigger screens but there are lots of others who might prefer something that fits in a pocket a little more easily. I guess we'll have to wait and see if the larger size has any effect on sales of the Moto X.
At the very least the announcement of the Moto X has given me a break from the non-stop iPhone 6 hype happening in the tech media right now. You'd think that a larger screen iPhone was the be-all, end-all of technology if you read some of the coverage.
I'll be glad when the iPhone 6 is finally released and reviewed, so we can see how well it compares to the Moto X and other recent Android phones. My guess is that the Moto X will hold its own and then some against the iPhone 6.
