Google Brings Android One Phones In India Starting Rs 6,399

Google on Monday has launched the first smartphone under its Android One project in India, pricing them around Rs. 6,399. The platform has been introduced mainly to target the low-cost segment of the world.

The Indian smartphone players like Micromax, Karbonn and Spice Mobile tied up with Mountain View-Based Company to introduce the affordable phones, powered by Google Android One OS. We saw a glimps
e of Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498, which was been leaked out on Flipkart for a short while. Now Karbonn’s Sparkle V Red, that runs Android One, is listed on Snapdeal, priced at Rs. 6,399.

Android One has emerged with the support of several Indian languages including Hindi, aiming to attract the country’s non-English speaking user base. Google has also mentioned that it will further expand Android One market to Indonesia, Philippines and other South Asian countries by the end of 2014.

India is seen as a lucrative market for low cost smatphones with only 10 per cent of current population having a smartphone access, as mentioned by brokerage Nomura in a recent research note.
