Intel Launches DRM Graphics Driver Changes For Linux 3.18 Kernel

Intel, DRM graphics, Linux, Linux 3.18 kernel, drm-next, drm-next tree, Cherryview support, Daniel Vetter, basic code for execlist, Broadwell Saturday, September 06, 2014 Intel has launched some DRM graphics driver changes for Linux 3.18 kernel which will take the exciting experience beyond whatever has already sent into drm-next. Intel has set its foot in the drm-next tree with improved Cherryview support and many other changes too.

This week another patch series has been sent by Intel OTC's Daniel Vetter which also landed into drm-next. The changes, which have been mentioned by Vetter are:

* basic code for execlist. It is the fancy new cmd submission on gen8 (Ben, Oscar Mateo, Thomas Daniel et al)

* removal of the useless usage of console_lock for I915_FBDEV=n (Chris)

* ctx and ppgtt relations can be cleaned up

* ppgtt lifetime handling can also be cleaned up (Michel Thierry)

* various cursor code improvements from Ville

* execbuffer code cleanups and secure batch fixes (Chris)

* prep work for dev -> dev_priv transition (Chris)

* other small improvements

Of all these changes, the execlist work will be quite interesting for Intel's upcoming Broadwell "Gen8" graphics. The other changes are just some clean-up programs and improvements are also of very small scale.
